The Sandman is a minor character in The Powerpuff Girls who serves as the antagonist of the episode "Dream Scheme". He flies around the world and puts people to sleep every night with the power of his sleepy sand. He is voiced by Greg Eagles.

Appearance[]
The Sandman is a short man with lavender skin, white side hair, a white beard, and a large bulging cyan nose. His eyes are entirely pink, with visible eye bags underneath. He wears a blue dress and nightcap with black stripes. The shape of his head (with his beard and nightcap) resembles a crescent moon.
Personality[]
The Sandman is shown to be grumpy, tired, and frustrated, as he travels all over the world every hour of each day to put people to sleep, and is very upset that he cannot sleep at all. In addressing his dilemma, however, the Sandman proves to be selfish and inconsiderate, making a machine that will make people sleep forever without ever waking them up, solely so he can get some sleep of his own.
Biography[]
In "Dream Scheme", the Sandman is revealed, as is his duty to go around the world every day, putting people to sleep. No matter what time it is, it is night time somewhere in the world, and he has to help people fall asleep in a different part of the planet every hour, getting no sleep for himself.
The Sandman gets sick of this, so he invents a machine that would put everybody to sleep forever. This worked on everybody except for the Powerpuff Girls, who did not go to sleep on account of not feeling tired. The Sandman paid the girls a personal visit, where he shot them with a sleepy dust gun. The Powerpuff Girls appeared in one another's dreams, collectively agreeing to go visit the Sandman in his dreams and give him a beating.
The Sandman goes back to his lair, where he is finally about to get some sleep. The Powerpuff Girls appear in his dream, turning it into a nightmare: they beat him with pillows, torment him in various animal forms, and drive him crazy. The Sandman wakes up, promising to never sleep again, and goes back to his job, no longer forcing people to be asleep.
The Sandman makes a cameo appearance in the series finale, "The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!!".

- The Sandman is based on a magical creature of Germanic and Scandinavian folklore bearing the same name, particularly in that both figures are said to pour a special sand into the eyes of people who are sleeping.
