Biography[]

Sedusa is a beautiful mistress of disguise. She is a seductress who uses her feminine wiles and quick wits to influence men to do her bidding. When her identity is revealed, she often fights with her whip-like hair which she can lengthen and control in a variety of offensive ways on her opponents. She usually speaks in a harsh, angry voice, but switches it to a soft, maternalistic voice when around the Professor. Her name and snake-like hair are inspired by Medusa.

For a brief period, she was Professor Utonium's girlfriend under the alias "Ima Goodelady."

Physical Appearance[]

Sedusa is a tall, beautiful, paste-white-skinned humanoid-woman with an hourglass figure. She sports freckles on her face, pointy ears, lime-green eyes and long, black hair with maroon-red accents, which writhes around in all directions. She also wore red lipstick on her lips for makeup.

In terms of attire, Sedusa sported a red-black color scheme on her clothing, which consists of a red leotard, red opera gloves, red fishnet stockings over black pantyhose, and red thigh-high, high-heeled boots.

While disguised as Ima Goodelady, Sedusa takes the form of a pale-skinned woman with platinum-blonde/white hair with light pink streaks, kept in a bob-style, and wears dark pink lipstick for her makeup. Her outfits features color schemes going from white, light pinks, darker-pinks, all the way to red, which slowly foreshadows her true colors. Similarities with her true form are her freckles, body figure and eye color.

In "Something's a Ms.", Sedusa disguises herself as Ms. Bellum, appearing completely identical to the secretary. As she wears Ms. Bellum's business attire and accessories, she also wears long, tan socks to have her pale-skinned legs appear tan-colored like Ms. Bellum's, possibly tan-colored gloves or bodypaint on her hands, possibly tan-colored bodypaint on her chest and a mask/wig made to replicate Ms. Bellum's hair and hidden face.

When disguised as Madge in "Hell Toupee", she wears a 1950’s styled light blue dress with matching pumps and a large light orange wig with a blue hairbow in the center.

History[]

Mommy Fearest[]

Sedusa laugh

Sedusa in "Mommy Fearest".

Sedusa was first seen posing as a regular woman under the alias. Ima Goodelady. While in disguise, she met Professor Utonium in the supermarket while he was shopping with the girls. As they were distracting the Professor about what kinds of cereal they wanted, he accidentally crashes into Ima's shopping cart. He began to apologize, but once he saw how beautiful Ima was, he was literally at a loss for words. The girls then proceeded to introduce themselves and the Professor. Then, Ima agreed to go out with the Professor on Friday night at 7:00.

When the Professor went out with Ima, it went well enough for him to ask Ima to move in with him and the girls so she could "help out" with their care. However, unbeknownst to him, Ima reveals to the girls her bossy, short-tempered, and slightly sadistic nature. She forbids them to fight crimes and forces them to do everything without their superpowers, even for simple chores.

One night, the Mayor calls the girls about a crime, for which they promptly snuck out to take care. When they returned, an extremely livid Ima reprimands and grounds them. Her yelling woke up the Professor, in which Ima proceeded to accuse the girls of breaking her rules, causing her to faint in the professor's arms. Infuriated, the Professor proceeds to enforce the grounding and sends the girls to their room.

Later that night, Ima sneaks out of the house to steal the Mayor's priceless jewels. The Mayor calls the girls once more, tipping the girls to Ima's true identity. They catch her sneaking back into the house in the same style she did to them. Holding a bag, Ima furiously threatens the girls with the Professor. However, Blossom tells Ima that he conveniently went out to the store and that the three of them know who she really is. Then, Bubbles takes off Ima's disguise, exposing Sedusa's true form.

As the girls beat her up, the Professor returns home and is shocked and confused at the situation. Reverting back to the Ima Goodlady persona, Sedusa desperately claims to the Professor that she had been out for a walk to cool down, and when she returned, the girls attacked her.

The Professor thinks over the situation, but ultimately realizes the truth, subdues Sedusa and orders the girls to call the police, boldly declaring Sedusa will never deceive them again.

Something's a Ms.[]

Each day at the Mayor's Office, Ms. Bellum seduces the Mayor for days off from work. At the same time, crimes are being committed without a trace of the culprit. However, each time, Ms. Bellum had always been present to call the Powerpuff Girls for help.

One day, Ms. Bellum misses work, as the Mayor receives a mysterious fax. He calls the Powerpuff Girls and as they arrive, he shows them the fax, a letter made of newspaper/magazine articles reading "I have Bellum. Bring $100,000,000 in un-marked non-consecutive bills to Ms. Bellum's house. No funny stuff! Love, Sedusa." The girls then immediately fly away to Ms. Bellum's house to rescue her.

As the Powerpuff Girls arrive, Buttercup scans the house with her x-ray vision and sees two figures inside at the far side of the home. They crash through the roof and catch sight of the women. However, they're surprised by Ms. Bellum standing over Sedusa, tied up to a chair with tape over her mouth. The girls question Ms. Bellum, who hastily dodges their questions in order to send Sedusa to jail quickly. As she asks to rest for a bit, Blossom throws her across the room, slamming her into a couch. The girls voice their suspicions of Ms. Bellum, as they deduce her to being an imposter. Bubbles then pulls Ms. Bellum's hair off, revealing it to be a wig Sedusa has been using to disguise as Ms. Bellum. Sedusa quickly uses her sticky globs of hair gel to pin the Powerpuff Girls one-by-one against a window.

As Sedusa plans on finishing the girls off, Ms. Bellum, who was disguised as Sedusa, is able to escape the chair after Blossom helped loosen the ropes. Ms. Bellum confronts Sedusa and the two women exchange threats. Ms. Bellum violently pulls the "Sedusa" mask off, yelling at Sedusa to "try her", thus beginning their fight. Sedusa overpowers Ms. Bellum for the majority of the fight, grabbing her, whipping her, and throwing her around the house multiple times. However, Sedusa taunts her, allowing Ms. Bellum an opening to tackle Sedusa through a window. The women fall into a swimming pool and trade blows underwater. Sedusa starts to lose air, as Ms. Bellum manages to knock her out briefly and swim out swiftly. As Ms. Bellum gasps and coughs for air, Sedusa reemerges and attempts to send a hair whip at Ms. Bellum, but her hair powers are gone since her hair got wet.

Ms. Bellum suddenly uses this knowledge to free the girls with a flower vase filled with water. The girls thank Ms. Bellum, as Sedusa reemerges to fight some more. However, with the girls free and Sedusa's hair powers gone, Ms. Bellum and the girls takes the opportunity to cut all of Sedusa's hair off with a pair of scissors, as Sedusa screams loudly into the night.

Aspirations[]

Sedusa returns, now completely bald, due to her hair being completely cut off by the Powerpuff Girls and Ms. Bellum in "Something's a Ms.". She has recruited the Gangreen Gang to bring her a tiara, scepter, and necklace of Cleopatra. This allows her to grow to an enormous size and get snakes for hair (like her namesake, Medusa), using her weapons to destroy almost all of Townsville and exact revenge on the Powerpuff Girls. After the gang gets betrayed by her, Ace tells Blossom the tiara is what's creating the magic, as an act of revenge for Sedusa betraying them. Finally, the Powerpuff Girls get the tiara off of her head, and she shrinks back to her regular size, goes bald again, and gets knocked over into the mud thanks to Ace. She whines angrily about her defeat, and is promptly sent to jail once again.

See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey[]

Sedusa is one of the villains terrorizing Townsville. At this point, her hair grew back. She along with the other villains, defeat the Powerpuff Girls. Sedusa appears at the end of the episode during the song "Why Can't We All Get Along".

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Hypnotic Charm & Beauty: Sedusa uses her natural sexiness to charm and seduce men, like a succubus, into doing her bidding, effectively fabricating the effects of hypnosis. Her captivating, irresistible skills are uncanny to the abilities of a siren.
    • Mommy Fearest: She was seen sexually charming and forcing the Professor into grounding the Powerpuff Girls by framing them.
    • Something's a Ms.: She was seen seducing the Mayor (disguised as Ms. Bellum) into giving her days off early by kissing him and by other sexual means.
    • Aspirations: She was seen motherly charming the Gangreen Gang into willingly working for and obeying her in order to obtain three mystical Egyptian artifacts of great power.

      Sedusa's evil laugh.

  • Mistress of Disguises: Sedusa's mastery of disguise allows her to transform into the exact image of a what a man finds attractive in a woman. She even has the ability to disguise as other people to resemble them without drawing too much suspicion, even being able to mimic their voice.
    • Mommy Fearest: She was in disguise as a woman named Ima Goodelady whose complexion had Professor Utonium wrapped around her paper-white finger.
    • Something's a Ms.: She was able to completely disguise as Ms. Bellum, with the same attire, and a mask/wig made to resemble Ms. Bellum's own hair and unseen face. She was even able to mimic Ms. Bellum's voice, fooling both the Mayor and the Powerpuff Girls. She is even able to disguise Ms. Bellum as Sedusa in an attempt to have her take Sedusa's place in prison, complete with a "Sedusa" mask put on her too.
  • Prehensile Hair Control: Sedusa's deadliest weapon, and her main form of attack, is her hair. She can control and manipulate them akin to a clutch of snakes. However, she uses them comparatively to the tentacles of a kraken, as they can stretch great lengths as well as ensnare people or objects. They possess amazing strength, being strong enough to handle anything that would far exceed any normal person's natural musculature, including hers or anybody else's.

    • Mommy Fearest: She uses her hair to grab Bubbles and hurl her across the room and onto a wall, cracking it. She then briefly uses another hair whip to knock Blossom away.
    • Something's a Ms.: She laces her hair strands with a pink, gooey, cement-like adhesive she calls "hair gel". She is able to use this adhesive to trap the Powerpuff Girls by placing them onto a window. She later uses hair whips on Ms. Bellum without applying the adhesive on her. Sedusa starts by grabbing the secretary's waist to carry her off the ground with a hair whip. She uses another hair whip to lash at Ms. Bellum's face, while still holding her in place with the other in order to maximize damage. Sedusa ends the brief attack by using the hair whip to throw her, slamming the secretary down to the ground.
    • See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey: She was using her hair to grab Bubbles and Buttercup and smash their faces together.
    • Aspirations: Once the Gangreen Gang assembled the Egyptian artifacts, the artifacts activated and her hair turned into live venomous snakes that completely razed the city with their electricity blasts that proved to be more than a match for the girls.
    • Shotgun Wedding: A picture of Sedusa was seen with her using her hair to steal money from a bank and attack cops with it.
    • The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!!: She was seen using her snake-like hair to carry Ms. Bellum and the Mayor.

Weaknesses[]

91Somethings a Ms-Gallery86

Sedusa with powerless hair.

  • Hair Becoming Compromised - Sedusa's hair may be her most powerful weapon, but it can also be her most fatal weakness if she doesn't take care of it.
    • Water - When Sedusa's hair gets wet, it becomes limp and heavy to the point where it loses its volition. Her sticky hair gel also loses its solidity, as seen in "Something's a Ms." when she attempts to attack Ms. Bellum with it after their fight in the pool.
    • Hair Loss/Baldness - In the episodes "Something's a Ms." and "Aspirations", Sedusa is revealed to be completely powerless since the girls and Ms. Bellum made her bald. Her hair primarily serves as a means of defense and a key factor for her seductiveness. Without it, she stands no chance fighting against the girls. Anybody who she tries to charm would find her unattractive without it, thereby nullifying her hypnotic allure.

Trivia[]

  • Sedusa's alias "Ima Goodelady" in her debut appearance "Mommy Fearest" is a pun on the phrase "I'm a good lady".
  • Sedusa is the first female supervillain to be introduced on The Powerpuff Girls.
  • Sedusa is a parody of Medusa, the Gorgon from Greek Mythology who could turn people into solid stone just by looking at her. Both have living hair. Her name also sounds like "seducer", which references how she romantically charms and captivates people, especially men.
  • Sedusa is the second least recurring villain on the show (not counting one-time villains), appearing in only ten episodes, most of which were cameos. Only three episodes featured her as the main villain; the third one, "Aspirations", has her share the spotlight with the Gangreen Gang.
    • Sedusa serves as a side gag on the show because Craig McCracken, the series creator, had a hard time thinking of plots with her as the main villain.
    • Sedusa has also taken the least amount of beatings from The Powerpuff Girls, at least onscreen. She took her one and only full beating in the episode "Mommy Fearest" and in the episode "Something's a Ms.", she was thrown by Blossom once while disguised as Ms. Bellum, and in the episode See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey she was punched by Buttercup only once.
      • However, the least recurring villains overall are really The Rowdyruff Boys, who are featured in only nine episodes, most of which are also cameos or side gags.
        • Even The Amoeba Boys, who were intended to be inefficient villains, ironically had more major appearances than both Sedusa and the Rowdyruff Boys.
  • Sedusa and The Rowdyruff Boys are the only villains to disappear after their defeats during the Craig McCracken-directed seasons, and reappear much later in the post-Craig McCracken seasons.
  • She is the only villain in the episode "The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!!" to have only shown up in half the episode. When all the villains were racing to City Hall, Sedusa was not shown, likely because the creators did not have an idea of what her car should look like.
  • In "Second Chances", HIM lists Sedusa's sin as Envy.
  • Sedusa had more appearances in the comics than in the show.
  • Despite not being in the 2016 series, Sedusa appears in the app game KleptoCats Cartoon Network.
  • Sedusa and HIM do not appear in the parade of criminals in "Daylight Savings".
  • In "Live & Let Dynamo", Sedusa was one of two major villains who were not suspected to be in control of the Dynamo, the other being Princess Morbucks.
  • Sedusa, along with Mojo Jojo, Lenny Baxter, Mike Brikowski, Dick Hardly and the Gangreen Gang, is one of the only villains to successfully capture all of the Powerpuff Girls.
  • Sedusa can be interpreted as a "dark mirror" of Sara Bellum; both are tall, curvaceous, and alluring women in red who are intellectual. Sedusa uses her intelligence to commit crimes, while Ms. Bellum uses her intelligence to run the city according to the law.
