It is also the main metropolitan area of Townsville; containing the main city of Townsville, Townsville Forest, and two smaller independent cities: Farmsville and Citiesville. The county's geographical features has a coastline that borders the main city of Townsville, a river dividing between Citiesville and Townsville, and mountains and hills surrounding the city.

It may be believed to be located in California between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
