"Blame it on the Boogie!" — The Nightmare's Catch Phrase

The Nightmare Monsters are a group of more than two hundred mostly disco-era themed nocturnal demidemons corrupted into spectral monsters that work for the The Boogie Man. They first appear in the episode titled, "Boogie Frights," and help the Boogie Man to terrorize the city.

Background

The nightmare monsters are a group of disco-aesthetic monsters that lurk in dark areas, mainly under beds. Unlike the monsters from Monster Isle, these monsters come in all sizes, and have a particular weakness to light. They are inherently evil, having no problem treating people like objects and destroying city property as they party. They have a particular hate for the Powerpuff Girls, immediately attacking them without even having confrontation. Unfortunately, after the events that followed in the episode they debuted in, most of them were burned to nothing. However, some of them still remain, as one is seen alongside the Boogie Man and the Maggot Monster in the episode, "The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!!".

History

We first see the monsters partying in an underground cave, before the Boogie Man reveals himself and gets them excited over a plan to party forever. After they celebrate and chant his name, the power to the city is cut and they begin to flood the city, appearing from under beds, within fridges, and other dark places that they were previously hiding in. They begin dancing and terrorizing the city, but soon the sun begins to rise, and they try to call it quits. The Boogie Man then reminds them of his master plan, shooting a giant disco ball that blocks out the sun. The partying then continues, to a somewhat larger degree, which awakens the Powerpuff Girls. Before the girls even interrogate the monsters, they begin growling and attacking them. While the girls are at first are able to beat them, the amount of monsters soon overwhelm them, and they realize that they need to take out the giant disco ball that had blocked the sun. After defeating the Boogie Man, they destroy it, and a good portion of the monsters are evaporated into nothingness.

In "The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!!" a blue Nightmare Monster is seen next to the Boogey Man and the Maggot Monster while they popped their heads out of the sewer.

Appearances

The monsters seen in this episode come in many forms, shapes, and sizes. Most monsters wear disco-themed attire and have hair similar to the hair that people of that had. There is a wide variety of forms that these monsters appear in, such as goblins, skeletons, demons, phantoms, gargoyles, dinosaurs (mainly T-Rex), humanoids, animals given humanoid attributes, gnomes, cyclopses, giants and more. Many of these monsters have horns and pointed tails.

	This is tenth monster to appear form under the bed, and is similar to that of a monster seen previously. He appears to also have large teeth, and has a pair of shoes.
	This is the last monster to appear from under the bed. He has a pair of eyes, a pair of blue stripes, stick legs, and a sock body.
	This is a red monster that appears within a fridge, startles a homeowner, and excites a baby.
	This was a giant orange monster that appeared under a girls bed with spines and a nose-ring.
