"Insect Inside" is the third episode of Season 1 of The Powerpuff Girls. It first aired on Cartoon Network in the United States on November 25, 1998.
Plot[]
Bug-loving loser Roach Coach has devised a plan to take over Townsville—and eventually the world—with his army of cockroaches. The girls, despite their fear, feel it's wrong to kill a bug just because you think it's gross, but must get over their fears to stop him.
Synopsis[]
In the beginning, the Girls are chasing a cockroach named Skippy. The Professor grabs it, then he tells the girls that it isn’t nice to harm cockroaches. Skippy the cockroach leaves and gets inside of his boss Roach Coach's room. While Roach Coach is seen watching people through a window, he gets quite angry because of all the noise outside. After a while, Roach Coach turns around seeking Skippy. Skippy whispers to him about the Powerpuff Girls, which leads to Roach Coach inviting all of the cockroaches in his home to gather around.
Roach Coach makes a statement to his cockroaches that the Powerpuff Girls are disgusted by them and that they should smash the girls and take over the world. Roach Coach then releases all of his cockroaches all over Townsville, letting them swarm over everyone and everything. Eventually, the Mayor calls the girls after Bubbles hangs up on him repeatedly. Grossed out, the girls go to the city, seeking what is going on.
Eventually, the girls caught all the roaches inside of a huge jar, which escalated in Roach Coach using his whistle, which made the cockroaches escape and create a giant cockroach with Roach Coach in its core. In the end, they have a battle against each other. The battle ends with Roach Coach falling from so high that he is destroyed. While Blossom is in shock that she allowed a "person" to be "destroyed" (even if he was icky on the inside), the girls discover that Roach Coach is a robot with a cockroach inside. The girls then capture the roach inside a small jar, while the roach is sent to prison inside the jar.

Trivia/Goofs[]
- When we first see the tall building on the outside, the red window is one level down from the top, but when we view the building the second time Roach Coach is yelling, the window is on the top level.
- Despite having his robot body destroyed, Roach Coach makes several cameos in later episodes.
- The episode also aired on The WB Television Network's Kids' WB block on May 25, 2002.
- Ms. Bellum's first name is revealed to be Sara, which makes her full name a pun for "cerebellum" (Latin for "little brain"), which is the part of the brain that plays a vital role in virtually all physical movement.
- Bubbles mentions the episode's title when she says "And look, there's an insect inside."
- The moral of this episode is that creatures that one finds disgusting are not always harmful. Don't judge something by how it looks, unless it is as bad inside as it is outside.
- When the narrator says, "So once again, the day is saved. Thanks to the Powerpuff Girls!", he laughs and says, "Spiders just creep me out," he says. Oh, jiminy!"
- Production wise, this episode marks the debut appearance of Tara Strong as the voice Bubbles, and Tom Kenny as the Narrator and the Mayor. It's also the first episode appearance of Professor Utonium, Ms. Bellum, and The Mayor in his official appearance, despite "Monkey See, Doggie Do" being the first to air.
Production Notes[]
- Although this episode and "Powerpuff Bluff" were the first episodes produced, they were not the first episodes to air.
