The Association of World Super Men (AWSM) is a (former) male-only superhero organization in The Powerpuff Girls.

History[]

The Association of World Super Men were founded by Major Glory. Though outwardly an organization of Super Heroes, in practice the group is more akin to a college fraternity, hyper-focused on masculinity and excluding women. The Powerpuff Girls, being huge fans of the group, attempted to join them, but were turned away for being female despite proving physically more capable than them.

Some of the members of the AWSM: Major Glory, Vanhallen, E Male, Mushu Gai Man, Mucho Luchacho, Mandingo and Tiki Torch.

After the Powerpuff girls rescued them from Mascumax, they ditched their male-only policies and renamed themselves the Society of Associated Puff-keteers (SAP).

Trivia[]

  • The Association of World Super Men are an alternate take on The Justice Friends featured on Dexter's Laboratory. Both are parodies of longtime Superhero groups such as Marvel Comics' Avengers and DC Comics' Justice League. The Justice Friends however did not share AWSM's exclusion of female superheroes however.
  • The acronym for the Association of World Super Men, AWSM, is blatant shorthand for "awesome".
  • All of the AWSM members not originally created for Dexter's Lab, such as Big Ben, E-Male and Ya-Mon, all feature variations of words for "men" in their names.
  • Comrade Red and Rasslor originally appeared as antagonists on Dexter's Laboratory, but are presented as members of the heroic AWSM in The Powerpuff Girls.
  • The Infraggable Krunk, while being a member of The Justice Friends, is not part of AWSM as Buttercup said "He's too stupid". A female member of the Justice Friends, Miss Spell, is also not a member.
  • Legacy Hanna Barbara superheroes Space Ghost and Birdman also appear to be members of AWSM.
  • Spore, a comic book character who appeared in the episode Super Zeroes, was also a member of AWSM.
